Frequently Asked Questions

Can InSight batteries be connected in parallel or series?
RELiON’s InSight batteries were designed exclusively to run in parallel. For starters, each InSight 12V battery is 12 volts. Up to 10 Insight batteries can be connected in parallel, giving you up to 1200 amp-hours. Because they are in parallel, if any one battery goes offline, you will not notice any difference in performance, only duration. A parallel connection extends the reliability of each individual Insight battery to the entire array, giving you more power, more capacity, and less to worry about.
How can I determine the state of charge (SOC) of my InSight battery?
We recommend using a shunt-based fuel gauge to measure SOC with the InSight Battery. This type of fuel gauge accurately measures the discharge/recharge currents and calculates the Ampere-hours (Ah) flowing in and out of the battery. The LEDs on the battery will also indicate the SOC: 95% - 100% Solid Green Solid Green 75% - 95% Solid Green Flashing Green (every ½ sec.) 50% - 75% Solid Green Solid Yellow 30% - 50% Solid Green Flashing Yellow (every ½ sec.) 10% - 30% Solid Green Solid Red 0 - 10% Solid Green Flashing Red (every ½ sec.)
How do I charge InSight batteries?
It is best to use/select a Lithium, AGM or GEL charge profile in that order of availability. Consult your manual or charger manufacturer for directions on this capability. Spot check the battery SOC LED indicators with a quick press and release of the battery Power Button. Chargers typically display a solid Green Light when the charge is completed, and a flashing green light when the battery is near the end of charge (will vary by charger). Both conditions may or may not occur depending on your charger design. Neither condition is necessarily required to properly achieve a full recharge.
Is there a way to turn the batteries on and off without accessing the battery compartment?
The InSight Series Remote Button gives you the convenience to power on and off your InSight Series batteries without having to access the battery compartment. This high-quality plug-and-play accessory saves you time and energy.
